Why Kite & Marbles?
We started Kite & Marbles because we are parents and whole-hearted believers that kids learn best when they’re actively immersed in activities and projects that engage their minds and bodies. After a lot of years of bootstrapping our own homeschooling and/or looking for ways to supplement what our kids were (or weren’t) doing in the classroom, we learned a lot. Kite & Marbles is our way of sharing this with you. No matter your child’s current educational environment, Kite & Marbles Kits are intentionally designed and developed to extend learning that helps broaden perspectives, develop interests, and apply classroom academic concepts (math, science, geography, language arts, world cultures, art, culinary arts, and outdoor play) and have fun while doing it!
We believe that a lot of learning can happen without the need for constant grown-up involvement in every step of the process. (Of course, this is age- and ability-dependent but you get where we’re going here, right?) Therefore, we provide you with a Grown-Ups Guide in every Kit so you know what’s what. You should be able to get activities set up and then let your child work independently (hence buying you a few minutes of “me time”). Also - we promise no tiny parts that require an advanced degree to complete.
A unique feature of all Kite & Marbles Kits is that they offer access to mindfulness practices that help children strengthen attention and learning skills, social and emotional skills, and build resilience. Purposefulness/presence, gratitude and openness/curiosity are the foundational mindfulness practices that are age-appropriately integrated into activities in each Kit. Not a lot of “woo”, but a lot of “woo-hoo”!
In addition to fun activities, included in each Kit are curated keepsakes that will be used long after the activities in each Kit are completed. We promise nothing odd or tacky — our intention is that you’ll never say to yourself “now what are we supposed to do with this thing?” Not everything in every Kit is intended to last forever, but those items that have a longer life span can be happily integrated into your home and lifestyle.
What makes Kite & Marbles unique is that we are focused exclusively on enabling and empowering elementary-aged children to learn about other cultures and mindfulness practices through curated Kits, connecting who they are (including their unique interests and abilities) and where they live to the larger world we all occupy.
